Fever...Ambulance....ER....Oh My!

What an evening we had! I put all the kids to bed and found Jonathon already curled up on his bed fast asleep. I was thrilled. I thought to myself,
"Yes! Night #2 and he's got it already. I never even had to tell him to get back in bed, not even one time."
And so, I jumped online and started surfing for a bit. Just before 9pm, he became restless and cried out just a bit. I went to him and as soon as I touched his forehead I knew he was brewing a pretty high fever. I scooped him up, placed him in the arms of my niece and went for the thermometer and motrin. He was limp, his eyes not able to stay open, his body on fire, he was just not normal!

I took his temp, 105 degrees! I reminded myself to remain calm-cool-and-collected. I listened to his lungs, they sounded clear. I checked his heartrate, 172. I waivered on calling the ambulance or taking him in myself. I called a friend and Tim and decided that we were off to the ER. On the way, Jonathon's breathing changed and it made me uncomfortable. So, we skipped the highway and went to the ambulance service instead. They checked him over for about 20 minutes and decided that he did need to be at the ER but was stable enough for me to take him. Or, if I had wanted, they could take him. I thanked them for the offer and loaded him up so we could make the trek to the ER.

We arrived, temp was retaken, and tylenol was given in addition to the Motrin. From the start to finish at the ER was approximately 2 hours. The end result...
"It looks like, smells like, and acts like Strep." So, he was started on amoxicillin in the ER and given a Rx to fill too. His temp came down some so we were allowed to leave as long as we continued the Tylenol/Motrin rotation every 3 hours. He is currently home, sleeping on the couch for what I hope to be all through the rest of the night!

I'm off to bed. I hope you all had an uneventful evening. And beware, Strep is going around. We were not the only ones in the ER with it!

Sorry to hear about Jonathon. Hope he gets to feeling better soon.
I had heard that Strep was going around and that it's a bad one so keep an eye on him.
