Did you feel that?

No? Really? You didn't feel the sudden shaking of the Earth beneath your feet? Well, you should have! That is, if you were anywhere near my house today.

After unsuccessfully trying to face plant on the walk way coming to the front porch, I decided to successfully face plant on the livingroom floor. That is, if you count it being my fault that I had my arms full of clean laundry as I walked to the couch when suddenly the 115 pound horse dog decided to jump up sending my entire body to the floor, face first!

Did I mention how sore I am? Or that I've already taken a muscle relaxer and am now waiting for the bathtub to fill with water? Or that I have a sprained wrist, a swollen and bruised knee and my back is having fits all on it's own? Well, if I failed to mention any of that, just let it be known that all of the above is true! And painful.

Enough of my complaining though. All of that isn't even comparable to what my friend Ashley and her family are going through. If you could, please stop on over to her blog and send your thoughts and prayers to her family. They would greatly appreciate them.

And on a positive note, stop on over to LaDonna's blog and wish her continued success on the pregnancy. She is an amazing woman with an amazing family. The gift she is able to give others is simply undescribable. Don't forget to wish the IP's luck too.

Tonight in my EMT class, I was able to successfully insert a combitube into a dummy victim. We've been doing all types of airways and this was the night to do combitubes (similar to an ET tube that paramedics insert). I was pretty happy with my success. Now if only I'm that successful on my practical exams.

I'm off to soak in a hot tub before going to bed. I wish you all well. And watch your step!! You never know when a dog will try to step in your path. *sigh*

Goodnight,
Becky

Tomorrow, I'll share photos of Mr. Hotrod (JR) jumping his bike off a ramp just like big brother. Boys will be boys!!

Please help me welcome Jack to the world! Jack is the first child of Amy and Chad. He is such a pure bundle of joy to look at. And if you take a look on over to their blog, you will see just how much of an over achiever Jack is already! Since I'm making something special for the family, I thought I'd share a very small version of my work in progress.

Baby Jacob Earned his Wings

For 139 days, Baby Jacob Ryan Fahmer lived on this side of Heaven. Jacob, a beautiful gift of God, was born with Trisomy 18. He blessed those who came to know and love him. His fighting spirit and the faith of his family amaze me daily. Sadly, Jacob has earned his wings. Please keep his entire family in your thoughts. Pray that his parents and brothers, Joshua and Jonathon, will feel the arms of the Lord hold them as they learn a new "normal" for their lives.
Thank you Baby Jacob (and your parents) for letting each of us to have a glimpse into your life. Being able to witness your incredible, amazing journey has allowed so many to see the many miracles the Lord has to offer.

Yet Another Angel

With a heavy heart, I thank you for your prayers for our little friend, Ethan. Unfortunately, Ethan lost his fight. He went peacefully from his parents arms to that of his Maker. Please continue to pray for his grieving family. Thank you.

Prayer Warriors, Pray Hard!

Please pray for baby Ethan. Things are looking grim but all things are possible with prayer!

Please Pray!

Please send up a few special prayers for some special people.

First, please pray for my dear friend, Marissa and her family as they grieve the loss of her Grandfather. He went to be with the Lord today.

Also, please pray for the Hostetter Family as they grieve the loss of their precious 56 day old son. Tristan went to be with Jesus yesterday afternoon after surprising all of those around him. Tristan was born with T-18.

Also, please continue to pray for:
Tricia, Nate & Gwyneth.
Ethan
Miss K, another one of my very special friends who has been hospitalized a week and is still down at U of M. Please pray for her Momma and her sister (who has been here with my family). Big sister is really missing little sister and Momma, especially at bedtime. Please pray that Miss K can come home soon.

Thankful for small miracles...

As I sat here this morning reading over the updates on Tricia, I couldn't help but weep as I was overcome with many emotions. To know, even a fraction, of what they will face in the NICU pulls at my heartstrings. However, to know the miracles they will witness, in addition to those they already have, is just as overwhelming. Please continue to pray for this new family of three.

As I said, reading through the start of their NICU journey brought my own personal journey with the NICU to the surface. If you've spent even one day hunched over, peering down into an isolette at the miracle you were given, then you know the emotions I'm referring to. The rollercoaster rides. The one step forward but two steps back routine. The desire to stay at their isolette 24/7 but the real physical need to eat, sleep, and spend time with your other children who are waiting at home. And these are just a few of the many many emotions faced by NICU parents. The one thing I'm certain each of us have in common is how thankful we are for the small miracles we were given.

When we decided to start our family, we never thought in a million years that we would experience any complications. We were healthy, active and young. I was certain I'd follow everyone elses footsteps and have the perfect pregnancy. Looking back, I giggle. I now know that every person, pregnancy, labor, delivery and baby is different. Oh, how much I have learned through my experiences.

My pregnancy with Jacob was very routine until the third trimester. He was my longest pregnancy. He was born three weeks early, healthy and able to come home with me. You can see his story here.

Austin was the start of terrifying pregnancy journeys. I haven't written his story yet for a few different reasons but I'm getting there. Although the pregnancy was full of complications, and he arrived five weeks early, he was healthy and able to come home with me as well. He was also our largest baby, born at 6lb 13oz.

Katelyn continued the trend of terrifying journeys. Hospitalizations, bedrest and medications had become the norm when we spoke of my pregnancies. After trying to sustain the pregnancy, my water broke seven weeks early. More hospitalization time and then the word that they were going to deliver. Arriving six weeks early, weighing a mere 4lb 6oz, Katelyn was born. She was also our first NICU baby.

My pregnancy with Emilee was quite a shock for us and more so for those around us. It was met with great hesitation from some, which is what we expected. Therefore, we decided not to share the news with those around us for a few several weeks. We had beaten the odds with the previous two high risk pregnancies. Many asked us why we would do it again knowing the risk we were taking. Looking back, I realize that sometimes the risk is worth taking. Wouldn't you agree? The previous trends continued with my pregnancy as they had with the others. Hospitalizations, a cerclage, medications, bedrest and we even added the terb pump and home monitors. My water broke nine weeks early and we were hospitalized once again. After a few days and receiving steriods, an amnio was performed. A uterine infection developed and delivery was a go. Miss Emilee was born eight weeks early, weighing slightly less than her sister, 4lb 4oz. She was my own 4x4. She was our second NICU baby.

Jonathon was the most surprising pregnancy for me, I think. I had started back to school, ready to pursue my career. Our family was complete, or so we had thought. Once again, the pregnancy followed a path similar to that of Emilee's. We opted for another cerclage, hopeful that it would allow us to carry a little closer to term. That didn't happen. My water broke seven weeks early. Jonathon was born via c-section weighing 5lb 1oz. He was our third NICU baby.

And since we know the old saying, Three strikes and you're out, we opted to be certain another pregnancy was not going to happen. I had my tubes tied during the section and 17 months later a hysterectomy. We're certain now that our family is complete. :)

When I remember the journey we took with each of our pregnancies I am reminded just how important Faith is. And I am thankful for the small miracles that I was able to witness.

My journey allowed me to grow in so many ways. I was able to grow spiritually as I had only Faith to hold me over at times. I was able to become more knowledgeable in the areas of pregnancy and preemies. I have been able to use my experiences as something positive for others who are going through something similar. After Austin's birth, I became a volunteer through Sidelines. I have had the honor of attending the labor and births of friends and family who wanted some extra support. I have learned that my true passion in life is to become a nurse who is able to help others and witness miracles along the way.

Now before I get any more sappy, I will end this by asking one simple thing.

Please continue to pray.

Much love,
-B

Hoping for relief...

Today has been a difficult day for me. I've felt pretty crummy most of the day. I tried staying in bed, hoping that the aches and pains would pass but that never happened. I finally came out and ate a bit of dinner to try to get some energy back. I hope this passes...quickly!

If you have a few extra seconds, please pray for Ashley and her family tonight. I am sure that they would really appreciate the extra prayers.

And while your at it, how about sending up a few prayers for Ethan and his family as well. They too appreciate all thoughts and prayers that they receive.

These are two very special miracles who continue to fight. Their determination and will is amazing. And the unwavering faith that the parents have is astounding. So tonight, as you're getting ready to close your eyes and be thankful for all that you have, please send up a special thought for these two families.

I hope your weekend was a good one.
Blessings,
Becky

You are so very special!

The house is quiet as the seven children are all tucked into bed, resting peacefully. And as I sit here, my heart has felt so many different emotions. I've said prayers, asking for a miracle, as I read the blog that a blogger friend faces end stages of ovarian cancer. Her will, her determination, her strength, and her spirit are astounding. Although she has been a survivor for quite some time now, she has been on Hospice for the last five months. Her time is dwindling, yet her spirit remains so high. Even so, I can not even fathom what her thoughts are. Please keep her in your thoughts. She truly is an amazing woman. God Speed, my friend. We shall see you on the other side.

Count your blessings...

I am blessed. So very blessed. I have a loving husband who I can't imagine my life without. I have five magnificant children who amaze me each and every day. My health is stable. My life is moving forward in a positive direction. I am striving for goals that I know, in time, I will reach. I am truly blessed.

Tonight, I have been in reflection (or as some say, downer) mode. I have a fellow blogger-friend who has been going through some very difficult life changing events. You can check out her blog . If you don't have time to read her blog, please at least say a quick prayer for her and her family. She is in a fight for her life. Heather's blog, Especially Heather, is full of many wonderful testimonies. Please keep her and her family in your thoughts as she prepares to undergo brain surgery next Thursday.

I have to admit, after reading Especially Heather, the things that are getting on my nerves seem so petty and insignificant. You know, like when the trash doesn't get taken out or the toys get put away. When the dishes are in the sink still or the laundry is piled up. Just little things like that. I realize each and everyday that I have followed Heather's story, just how precious life truly is. I mean, I know it's precious but when you're 30 years old, a mother of 3, a wife and suddenly you are diagnosed with a brain tumor, it seems to make things a little bit clearer.

I don't know why I am compelled to share Heather's story with you tonight. I'm not an overly religious person by any means. I am quite spiritual however. Perhaps that's the reason. In any event, there is a reason. I hope that each of you hug your children and/or your spouse a little longer and a little tighter tonight. Count your many blessings. Give thanks for what you have. Cherish your family and your friends. And if you pray, please pray for Heather.

Sending many blessings your way,
-Becky
