Well, it is confirmed that there is a mass. Unfortunately, the ultrasound didn't give any definite answers as to what the mass is. What I do know is that the mass doesn't have the same appearance as a fibroid or a cyst. It isn't "well defined" as they are. The mass is very vascular (good blood supply). The mass is not my ovaries, as these were seen clearly on the ultrasound.
Having all of that information, we can only guess what this mass is. He also said my options are down to one and that is a hysterectomy (sooner rather than later). He said that this mass in particular is on the anterior (front) of the uterus and extends through the entire wall of the uterus. A vaginal hysterectomy is still an option at this point but is a little harder to do. I will sign a release form for an abdominal hysterectomy as well incase they need to switch to that route during the surgery.
Of course, my first question was "Is it cancer?" He made it clear that he couldn't rule out cancer until the pathology report comes back after the surgery and that "anything could be cancerous". After discussing things further, he said that he would be sure to come out and talk with Tim after the surgery to fill him in on what he saw.
Unfortunately, he said it is quite possible that I will be losing my left tube/ovary as well. If both are affected, I'll lose both. However, right now, we're looking at the left one.
He said that there are other things that could show up on the pathology report (adenomyosis, degenerating fibroids, endometriosis) and that until the hyst. we won't know what we're truly dealing with overall.
Please say prayers. I went to this appointment prepared to hear a couple things. One was that I had cancer. The other, that my pain was all in my head. Unfortunately, I am left with even more questions until I can get in for the surgery. I am on the cancellation list but as of now, the LAVH with TOT and possible BSO are scheduled for June 12.
A dear friend has offered to get together help for me after the surgery. She has asked me to supply her with names of those who I thought would be willing to help out. She is trying to put together things such as meals and support so that my recovery will be a little less stressful for our family. If you're interested in helping in any way, shape, or form, please contact Marissa at Marissa5may@yahoo.com and title your email "Wanting to help Becky after her surgery." Or, you can send me a quick email letting me know and I'll pass it along to her. Thank you so much, in advance.
Until next time...
