Moments that take your breath away, literally.

I have been so busy since I last posted. I kept wanting to post but would find myself extremely exhausted or busy beyond belief. So, I apologize.

This weekend was eventful for us here. Sunday night, a friend came to visit. She ended up falling asleep on the couch so I decided not to wake her. I knew she was tired and needed any extra sleep she could get. Her children were tucked into bed with my kids so all was well. I sat up until about 2:30am doing Chemistry homework. Then I decided I'd go to bed. I must have been so exhausted because after the first step, I never touched another one with my feet. I fell down eleven steps hitting every part of my body on the steps, railing, and walls before coming to an abrupt stop at the bottom. An instant pain shot up my spine leaving me breathless and in so much pain. Tim jumped to his feet (I woke him) and offered to help me. Jacob was still up and just sat looking at me with his mouth wide open. After a few minutes of sitting there, doing nothing but holding my hand up to them to tell them not to touch me or talk to me, I finally was able to move. Without waiting another second, I took 800 mg Motrin and hit the bed.

About 4:30 am, our friend was waking me up. Her daughter had stopped breathing. Pure adrenaline had me on my feet, up the stairs and kneeling beside her in a matter of seconds. We called 911, and once the ambulance arrived, she was sleeping once again. One of the initial comments this medic said was, "I'd like to be sleeping too." Granted, she was talking to an already sleeping child but the only ones that were hearing it were her mother and I.

While looking the child over, the mother told them that the child uses an apnea monitor. That she had it on, it alarmed, we responded. It continued to alarm several times after, to which we responded as well. The medic lifts up her shirt, sees the lead wires and asks, "What are these for?"

Are you kidding me?

After the crew finished their assessment, the one medic says,
"So, I'm confused. Exactly what do you want me to do?"

I was in pure shock.

Here is a child, a three year old child, who stopped breathing several times, requiring rescue breathing and you show up "Confused" and asking "Exactly what do you want me to do?"

The mothers response, "Take us to the hospital!"

The medic got all snippy but my friend instantly cut her off. She told the medic,
"Well, I'd rather be sleeping too but my daughter stopped breathing and then you ask me what I want you to do when you get here? You're making me feel like I was stupid for calling you. You have no idea what I've been through with this child."

Seriously Lady, do you honestly think we have nothing better to do at 4:30AM other than to call you over here? This is not a social visit. We didn't invite you over for coffee and rolls. I mean, you are the one that is wearing a paramedic coat and driving that fancy little red rig that is parked in my driveway, are you not? What in the hell do you think we want you to do!
Her piss poor excuse of a defense was
"She looks fine now. But I don't know her."

Lady, I don't care if she "Looks fine now" or not! It's not normal for a child to stop breathing. And if it happens, I am pretty certain that the next step would be prompt medical treatment! So, since you are certainly not a physician and clearly have the bedside manner of a rock, I would suggest that you keep your absurd comments to your self and just follow protocal by taking your patients to the nearest hospital.

We told her that if they (the medics) felt that she did not need to be transported by them that we would be transporting her ourselves. They promptly agreed that they could take her in. @@

She is still hospitalized. Please say prayers that they are able to find out some answers in the upcoming days and that she is released to come home soon!

On top of this all, our friends other child began vomiting on Sunday night into Monday morning. And my children started vomiting Monday night about 10PM. Needless to say, all the kids stayed home from school today!

Please send us get well vibes for all six children here (I'll be keeping my friends daughter until her sister is released from the hospital).

Yikes, are you okay from falling down the stairs? Yowzers, and then your friends child, what a weekend. Also, does the ambulance service have your house on their regular route? You probably have favorite local EMTs by now! You poor thing.
