Speaking of Austin, he told me something interesting on the way to town today.
Austin: Mom, I think Jacob killed some brain cells.
Me: Why do you say that?
Austin: I just think he did.
Me: Well, how would he have done that?
Austin: By sucking the air (helium) from a balloon. That kills brain cells.
Me: You're right, that will kill brain cells.
Austin: Well, I think I might have killed like two of my brain cells.
Me: Well how would you have done that, Austin?
Austin: Umm, sucking on a balloon.
Note to self: Don't bring helium balloons into the house! (sigh)
Austin also asked me to shave his head tonight. And, umm, you guessed it. I did it. Now I'm not all into letting my kids have crazy hair cuts (or long hair) but it's summer, there are no school pictures in the immediate future, and why not live a little. So, we grabbed daddy's trimmer (which really isn't the proper tool to use, but oh well) and we started shaving. I stopped along the way to let him see and see if he wanted to continue on. In the end, this is what he ended up with.
These are two moles that we've been watching on Austin's head. We'll be able to show them to the doctor tomorrow as they have changed size/shape recently.
Shock of all shocks...he likes it! Bonus! I just saved $15 for a haircut.
Alright, now I am literally laughing out loud as I finish up this entry. You see, I started this entry over an hour ago but I was called to duty in the middle of it. So now, I can finish this up.
One of the things that we discussed at Jacob's appointment today was how at ten, the kids should be encouraged to have some self independence. I must say, Jacob is pretty independent. About a week ago, Jacob finally decided he would trim up his hair. The catch was that he must cut it himself. You see, he was trying to get us to let him grow his hair long. Ummm, NO! Not a chance! So, he trimmed his hair. The funny thing is, he cut the front of his hair uneven as he tried to cut it straight across his forehead. However, I let it slide.
Today, after seeing his brothers hair, he told Austin that it looked ridiculous!! Then, within a few minutes, he asked me if he could straighten up his previous attempted trim job. I told him I'd do it...but nope, no deal. Remembering the chat today at the office, I told him to go ahead but that if he slipped, he'd end up with a shaved head!! After a few minutes, he comes to me and says, "umm, mom...I messed up." There was a little "oops" that could be "blended" in with a little help. He said he's going to fix it. Pretty soon, he came back and this is what I was greeted by:
And he said to me, "I need your help!!!" So, after a few more minutes, I finished up the job. Here is Jacob:
While finishing the job up, I said to Jacob "You know what they say about kids who try to grow their hair long, don't you?" He said, "Yeah, they have to get their head shaved!!" A few other things he said was, "How about we shave your head too mom?" And, "You know what would be funny? If we shaved Daddy's head when he was sleeping"
Holy smokes! I think we need to hide those clippers as well as the helium!
I hope you all had a great day!
