July 22nd & The RUMORS!

This is an entry I had written in my journal but never posted it.

July 22nd, 2009:

Have you ever sat down, taken a deep look at your life and wondered, "What the hell happened?" That has been one of my thoughts quite often lately.

Even so, I have to remind myself of how incredibly blessed we are. Truly, we have so many things to be thankful for. Most importantly, we have each other. We are blessed with family, friends, an income, and the basic necessities. We may not have all of the extra things we would like; however, we have what is important. For that, I am thankful. We are thankful!

Things have been difficult for our family over the past year. With the help of family, friends, thoughts and prayers, and faith we have continued to push through it. Has it been easy? Definitely not. It surely has been a humbling experience and one that is certainly not over yet. The ride continues. The ups and downs keep coming our way. There are times I want nothing more than to push the "stop" button, especially when we are on the up side of things. It is then; however, that I realize that in order to get to the top, you have to climb from the bottom. This is life and life will continue on like that until the day we cease to exist. It is what builds character. It is what makes us who we are.

Next month, Tim and I will celebrate another milestone in our journey, eighteen years of being together. It doesn't seem possible. Two months later, we will celebrate our fourteenth wedding anniversary.

The past few days I have done a great deal of thinking. I am reminded that this isn't where I would have expected to be nor is it where I would have chosen to be when starting our lives together. However, HERE WE ARE! Thankfully, our journey together is far from over!

The silver lining to this is no matter what I may have planned for my life, the ultimate plan was decided long before I ever thought of one. The path that we are following may have taken us by surprise but it was planned all along by Him and He isn't surprised by this path one bit. I truly believe that!

Is it one I would have chosen? Nope! Even though I can't see the end result or why I was sent down this path rather than a different one, I know that there is always a reason. In time, and certainly not my time, the reasons will be revealed. I have learned this lesson more than once in my life.

It appears that over the next few months, our family will go through another series of changes. We have taken the time to sit down with each of the children and discussed the options we have been given. We wanted to be sure the kids knew that their opinion was important to us and more importantly, mattered! This journey included them as well. We want to be sure that they take with them what is important after all of this is over. Life is not easy. Things are not just handed to you. You must make sacrifices and work hard to achieve your goals and dreams. More importantly, the love of those around you will help you through anything you face!

I am certain that with these changes will come more ups and downs. Our hope is that along the way, we can remain focused on the goal that we are trying to accomplish. We are choosing to make what we believe are the best decisions for our family. That is truly who it is about, US.

We realize that not everyone will agree with what we believe is best. That is fine. We are all entitled to our opinions. We don't ask for you to agree with us. The decisions we make for our family are for the seven of us. All we ask for is your unconditional support and encouragement as we continue down this journey.

I'll share more details when I have them...

Count your blessings,
Becky

The Rumors:

I have been approached by a few people within the past week to inquire about the "rumors" that have been flying around town. First, let me express just how much I love "rumors" (NOT!!) Even so, they tend to spread around a small town faster than a forest fire on a windy day.

Thank you to those of you who came forward and talked directly to us about what you were "told" or "hearing" before you went on to spread things even further.

Here are the facts:

NO, we are NOT being evicted!!!!

About a month ago, we were approached by some dear friends who knew we were thinking about moving. We were trying to figure out how we could do what we had to do and still achieve our ultimate goals.

Goal: Save enough money to purchase a home we can call OURS.

When the offer was presented to us, we really didn't think they were serious! We were quickly informed that they were indeed serious and the consideration began. It took a few weeks for us to finally decide what we were going to do. Believe me, the rumors started long before we ever made a decision!

So...

Yes, we are moving.

Yes, Tim is still laid off.

Yes, this is a decision based 90% on financial reasons.

Yes, we are moving to Stockbridge.

Yes, Tim still intends and desires to stay on the Fire Department he has devoted the past twelve years to.

Yes, we all understand "what we are doing?"

Yes, we have talked in great depth with the children about how they feel.

Yes, the children will be attending another school district.

Yes, they were given a choice in their schooling.

Yes, the kids chose what school they wanted to attend.

Yes, we made this decision as a family after a great deal of thought.

No, we don't have a date yet. It will be later this fall.

This post was to dispel the rumors that are flying around town like leaves on a windy day.

If you have questions, PLEASE ask.

July, already?

It's hard to believe that it's already the first week of July. It seems that the time has flown by these last few months.

Things are going okay. Busy, as usual.

The things on our plate seem to change often. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. The kids don't seem to be bothered by it, so I suppose that is a plus. Now if I could just quit finding grey hair, I'd be happy.

I haven't mastered the art of "letting things go" very easily. My stress level is surely way too high. I'm not sure that I know how to operate on anything less though.

I'm still in school. I feel like I'm making a career out of being a student. *sigh* I am debating on what path to follow for the fall but will soon have my mind made up and registered for classes.

I'm still in a summer class and have about three weeks left before I'm done with that. Next week I have to go in to give a speech. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate public speaking. Send me good thoughts. You know, the ones that help me to not be nervous!

I'm still working, a lot! I've put in to have my hours scaled back beginning mid August because I won't be able to keep up with everything if I don't.

As some may know, we have been looking for a different place to live. There isn't anything wrong with the location or house that we are in now. We just would like to find something that is ours instead of paying so much in rent every month to gain nothing. We've been hesitant to say anything, hoping not to get our hopes up or jinx ourselves; however, I think we may have found a place. We are suppose to go look at it Tuesday afternoon/evening. I will let everyone know what we find out, when we find anything out. It would involve us moving from our current town into another one about 15 miles away. It would put me closer to the ambulance and Tim farther from the Fire Department. Can we say conflict of interest. :)

Tim is still laid off from GM. He is suppose to return on Aug 10th. We shall see. That has been a nightmare that we can't seem to sort out or wake up from lately. I would like to go back to having a routine...and soon!

I ask that you send up some good thoughts for not only all of the changes that we are facing but also for our Niece. She is currently expecting her second child and we ask that you send up good thoughts that everything will turn out perfectly. She and her husband welcomed their first child, a precious Daughter, earlier this year. Sadly, she passed away. Please keep their family in your thoughts as they go through these next few months with great anticipation and some fear as well.

There really isn't much more to update everyone on. Emilee is learning to ride a "two wheeler" and can't decide if she likes it or not. The kids are playing outside from sun up until after dark. They love the outdoors.

The baby chicks have grown into grown chickens, well, and dinner. Quick story on that, Tim didn't think that anything would bother them. Needless to say, we are now six chickens short and a wild animal had a tasty dinner. Darn food chain!

Our gardens are doing great. We already have some of the crops coming on. Yum! I can't wait to have the fixings for a fresh salad!

We are gearing up for our yearly family camping trip. The kids are thrilled and I am, well, not. I'm ready for the break and ready to enjoy the time "away" but I am not looking forward to packing up everything to go. I'll survive though. I always do.

I hope that each of you enjoyed your holiday weekend. I spent mine working. Such is life, I suppose.

Keep in touch,
-Becky

Just a check up...

Again, the clock has continued to tick on and I haven't gotten here to update.

Jonathon is home and doing better. He is still having some issues but they are better than what it was.

Tim returned to work on Monday. I have very mixed feelings on this. I'll write my own post on that after this one.

I worked the ambulance a couple days. First night I had a run, second night-nothing!

I've been putting in as much time at the hospital as I can. I've had to cover for others as well since this is vacation time for them. To say I'm exhausted is an understatement.

The house is slowly getting on my nerves. I seem to be overwhelmed with clutter everywhere I look. I hate clutter! I cleaned out all the bathroom cabinets, the hall cabinet and requested all the clothing from the kids. I am eliminating 75% of their clothes and putting just enough back into their drawers to get them through a week. I am not joking when I say that they literally have enough clothes to dress a dozen children for at least a week. Does anyone else find this task daunting? Why is it that only the MOMS get to do it? *sigh* We are also doing their toys and everything else that is in the house.

The clincher? Everyone but DAD is willing to part with the excess. This is a huge issue between us. He won't even talk about it. All he will say is "don't hound me or we will not be friends. Just leave me alone." Why is it that he feels the need to have SO MUCH CLUTTER. I have others who helped us move the last time that will agree with me. They have even told him that if/when we move again, they will NOT move his stuff. The clutter and "treasures" he keeps is absurd! I am having serious issues with it all. I don't know how much longer I can look at all of the clutter that surrounds me. Suggestions anyone?

That's it in a nutshell. Hope you're all doing well.

Trying to play catch up...

I have a million things on my mind right now and no "mental composure" to put it all into a well written post. Please excuse my *attempt* at playing catch up!

I want to wish our very good friends a Happy Anniversary (June 6th). May they have many years of marital bliss and fond memories ahead of them. (Oh yeah, and may I be the proud new "aunt" in the near future too!)

In other news:

I am now the mother of a 12 year old! *gulp* How in the world that happened, I have NO clue. I do have a Birthday post started but like everything else in life right now, it's not finished! *sigh* Jacob turned 12 on June 3rd. Of course, he already thinks he knows everything. Boy, we are just getting started!

Tim has received the official paperwork for the GM buyout program. I can't really comment any further on that whole mess because we haven't had the time to really sit down and discuss everything in detail.

The children are now enrolled in a new school district, effective Fall 2009. It's a change for all of us and one that came with much distress. I truly believe it is needed but I'm just having a hard time letting go of our "ties" to those that we have come to know and the friendships I have formed with the teachers of our school district. I promise to keep in touch with them because they truly have made a huge impact in the lives of our children as well as my own. *Big shout out to Mrs. A*

Work is busy. I've picked up extra hours, been training on another job, and then have third rides starting up again at the ambulance base next week. I have three nights in a row there and am hoping to "get my feet wet".

I've been doing much research on schooling for myself and still trying to figure out where I need to be. I know that it will all work out, in time, but I'm having a hard time seeing the light that is supposedly at the end of the tunnel. Have you ever had a flashlight that flickers when you shake it just right? That's what it feels like. A flicker of hope, only to have it get real dim and go out. I keep shaking it, hoping for it to stay on and guide my way but it's not working. I'm thinking I need a new flash light (aka, a new goal or path).

In two weeks, my youngest sibling and only brother will be married! I'm still wondering how all of those years passed by so quickly. I am so excited for him and his bride-to-be. I remember those months leading up to my own wedding nearly 14 years ago (wow). I wish them nothing but pure marital bliss. I do admit that I'm anxious to be an Aunt again. If and when they decide to expand their family, I am sure I will be on cloud 9. It has been many years since I have had a niece or nephew to "spoil" and enjoy. Not that I don't love every-single-one of my nieces and nephews now but they are just a tad bit too big to be bouncing around on my knee! :)

I've been spending so much time lately reflecting on my life and those that have had an impact on it through the years. We recently laid to rest my grandfather and the tenth anniversary of my other grandfathers passing was just days earlier. My heart has been heavy and quite sad as I think about the loss of both of them. I look back through the years and see how the loss has impacted not only me but the other family members as well. For some, it affected them much more than they will every be able to see. It is one of the worst things we must go through, losing a loved one. In the end; however, we must move on. We must find a way to cope with our loss and deal with our grief. Our loved ones would want us to move on and live life to the fullest. Unfortunately, grief has taken a hold on some and they have become "paralyzed" in every aspect of their life. It is quite sad to witness.

I am going to make a better attempt at updating more often. For now, I must go. I will try to upload some photos of things we have been up to lately. It's been a while since I've shared any photos.

Stay safe,
Much Love & Friendship,
Becky

Week Two

Two weeks later and 10.4 pounds gone! Things are going well.

The kids are doing good. Emilee celebrated her 6th birthday yesterday! Oh how the time has flown by! My baby girl is growing up into a wonderful young lady. As far as the kids, they are enjoying this warm weather that we are having (in spurts anyways). My oldest just told me that he was happy to see leaves on the trees. The girls are ready to put their swimsuits on and play in the hose. (not quite yet, ladies)

We've worked out in the yard a few days this past week cleaning out the flower gardens, rearranging flowers and getting our garden ready to go. Am I the only person who has tulips that are not in bloom yet? They are up, just not opened. I can't wait to see what colors they are.

Work is going well for me. I worked a day shift last week and it was much easier to pass the time. You were busy all the time, which is exactly how I like it. Working thirds has too much down time for me. I never thought I'd be saying that after chasing after five children daily.

Tim is now laid off. We are just taking it day by day and trying to stay as positive as possible.

Other exciting news...my brother is getting married in a few weeks! That's hard for me to believe! I'm super excited for him though!

I can't remember if I posted it or not but I did pass my National EMT exam. I am now waiting on the state to send me my license. I can now breathe a slight sigh of relief.

I am going to do my best to update throughout the week a little better. I ended up very busy and my time here was limited. Okay, nonexistant.

Hoping you are all healthy and doing well,
Becky

With such relief....

I come to you tonight! Can you believe how long it has been since I have been here to update everyone? I apologize for taking such a long vacation from blogging. It has been a much needed break, however.

Tonight, I passed my state EMT exam! My final percentage in the class was a 91.9%, placing me 2nd in the class. I am so very excited.

In the same breath, I am also sad to know that three of the classmates that tested today did not pass and will not move onto the next step. They now must take the entire class over with if they want to pursue their EMT license.

As for me, I now move on to my national registry exam. I am thinking of taking it in another 7-10 days. We shall see if my time frame works out or not.

I am still working at the hospital. The shift I am working has been quite difficult to get used to. It has put a tremendous strain on me so I have requested to be put on a different shift. Actually, I will be moving to an on call position. I think that at this time, that is the best place for me to be.

The kids are doing well. They just finished having spring break. They had a great time for Easter. Unfortunately, I ended up tucked in bed for most of the day only to turn around and come to work again that evening. It is the first time I have been away from them for a holiday. Needless to say, it was a difficult thing for me. All the plans I had for the holiday didn't work out. I was pretty bummed about that.

Tim is still working. At least, for the present time. He will be laid off again on April 27th. Again, we're unsure how long this will last. He has a feeling that it will be for a long time as he said the government apparently told GM to begin the process for bankruptcy. That's not a good sign.

I hope each of you had a fantastic holiday. I hope to keep up the blogging now that my EMT class is over and I have PASSED! What a relief!

Until next time,
-B

Long time, no blog...

It's been a while since I last updated. I'm sorry. Every time I go to update, something else has my name on it that needs to be done. Such is life, I suppose.

Things here on the home front are well. The kids are in school still this week with spring break next week. They are adjusting nicely to Momma working and being gone a few (more) days a week. They are doing well in their studies with the exception of one of them. We're working with that child a bit harder and have asked for the school to get involved more as well. We hope for a good outcome.

Tim's laid off this week. We knew this was a layoff week as it was predetermined. The other layoff, we're not sure what will come of it. One week, he's told he's getting laid off. The next, he's told he may not be. We're just taking it a day at a time and will go from there. There's no sense in fretting over it. Right?

Classes are winding down here. That's a welcome relief. My EMT academy is complete on the 13th. I then have about another month after that for my three other college courses. At that time, I should hear something about the nursing application I turned in last month. We shall see. I'm not holding my breath. I'm still suffering from brain damage from doing that the last few times. :)

Work is going well. It's not as fast paced as I am used to being so that has taken some adjusting. It does give me the time to just "relax" and take in some peace. I've had the opportunity to do some good studying while there as well since it is so slow. That's helpful, especially with finals coming up and a few papers that will be due.

Other than that, nothing new is really going on here. Things are pretty much the same on a daily basis. Just go-go-go all the time. I'm sure everyone can relate.

On a side note, I'm really really really ready to have some warmer weather here...long term! I'm getting sick of this cold weather!

I'll touch base with you more this week. Off to do some more homework for now. :)

Time's a tickin...

Tim has returned to work (Thank Goodness). We're not sure how long he will stay working as there have been numerous rumors floating around. The talk right now is that he will be laid off again in the very near future for quite a long time.

The past seven weeks have been very difficult for us. We are still fighting with the unemployment office as well as Chase bank over the unemployment benefits that we never received! So far, we have made five phone calls with no success. It has been very difficult on Tim emotionally as he isn't one that can sit still. He was going stir crazy after the first week! His emotional upheavel has trickled down, causing us to become agigated and upset with eachother. Even though we tried not to let this layoff come between us, it did. More arguing has been going on between us than we've ever experienced before. Hopefully, we are on the upswing of things now with an improvement to follow.

Right now, Tim's on a house fire, the kids are all sound asleep and I am just about to turn in for the night. I fear I may be coming down with a touch of the flu or stomach virus. I sure hope not as I have approximately ten hours of EMT tests to have done by Wednesday night by 11pm. I have been thinking I had until Sunday night to finish these. I have no clue how I dropped the ball on this one but am glad I realized it before I missed the deadline completely! I have one test completed out of ten.

I hope you are all feeling well. I hope to update a little more after I get these tests done.

To those out there that have stumbled upon or been directed to my blog, "Welcome". I appreciate you "stopping by" and hope that you'll visit more often. To my exended family that has found their way here and commented on my previous post, Thank You for letting me know that I am not alone in my feelings! It's nice to have that confirmation!

If anyone needs to contact me directly (or privately, off of the blog) you may do so by emailing me at Becsbunch@aol.com

Good Night!

The Grandpa I lost...and grandmother who I never had.

Please know that these are past-dated posts. I'm warning you. This post is painful to read at times. Read at your own desire.
-Becky

January 23, 2009
For several hours, I have tried to compile this post. I have it written out perfectly in my head; however, when I go to type it, my thoughts freeze and my fingers sit still.

The past thirty six hours, although painfully real, still seem much like a dream. My mind replays so many of the things from those hours. From the pounding of my heart with the initial call to the visions my eyes saw, to the words I was sure to speak, even if only to the body that once held his soul, will remain with me forever.

Through it all, I tried to separate myself from reality, as if I was simply peering in on someone else's grief. Although short-lived, it did help me "hold it together" for a while.

I'm not sure how many of us "knew" what the outcome would be this particular day. What I do know is that I felt it hours before it happened. Intuition, perhaps, but I just had this nagging feeling that wouldn't subside. Of course I didn't want to be right. The outcome for those left behind is painfully devistating.

I remember the initial call on Sunday morning. The pounding of my heart was so strong that I was certain it would beat right out of my chest. The urgency to get there was strong. And yet, once there, the spirit of what was a very ill man was soaring high. His strength astounded me. To know that he was struggling for each breath he took was enough to take my own breath away. I looked into his eyes, searching for that spark that was usually there. It was gone.

The diagnosis was Pneumonia. To a healthy individual, pneumonia can take it's toll. To an eighty year old with compromised lungs already, this was very serious. Much more serious than some may have initially thought.

I left that morning after he had been admitted to the hospital. He had been tucked into bed with the hopes that he would get some rest and allow his body to fight this infection.

Monday, Tim and I were able to go visit with him. Although confused at times, he was sure to keep his spirits high and us laughing as he told story after story. His color was better but the amount of oxygen he needed did not decrease. Again, we left the hospital knowing that his spirits were high but that he was still not out of the woods.

Tuesday came and I felt the urgency to make another trip to see him. This time, I went alone. I had some one on one time with him before more family came to visit. Our time together is time I will cherish forever. Soon my Mom, Aunt and Brother joined us to visit. The stories kept coming and the jokes continued to be cracked. There came a point that we even shut his door so the staff couldn't listen to these famous stories he told. I reminded him that he had someone who loved him very much and wanted to see him. The look on is face was as if my words melted the hardness he had built up over the situation away. Truly, it was almost a sense of peace.

Several times through the visit, he mentioned Heaven. I didn't recall ever hearing him speak of Heaven during my childhood visits. At one point, I told him that he needed to be sure to save us a spot up there in Heaven with him. He told us it would cost us $5 and a patch of grass. This was just another part of an ongoing joke he had been telling us.

It wasn't the fact that he spoke of heaven often or that his mind drifted from the present to the past and once again to the present, that spoke volumes to me. It was the words he spoke at the end of our visit that made my intuition kick in a little stronger than it was before. The simple words he spoke as he looked directly into my eyes with his hands firmly planted on each of my upper arms. "I love you, too." In all my years, I have never heard him say those words to me. Rather, he would use the simple phrase, "You be good" when parting ways. To hear him say "I love you, too" gave me a feeling that is simply indescribable.

I remember pulling out of the parking lot and thinking to myself, "maybe you should go visit a while longer." Afterall, I really didn't need to leave. I could have spent more time there soaking up his wisdom, his stories, his humor. I had the urge to turn around but convinced myself that he needed his rest. He looked tired when we left and I had already been there a couple of hours. And so, I came home.

Wednesday I called my mom to get an update. He had been released. I still can't fathom who would have released him considering his status. Even so, he was released and was headed home. Around 8:30 PM, I received another update that he wasn't feeling well and was having trouble again. I'm not sure why he wasn't taken back in to the hospital right then but that's besides the point. Mom and I discussed our feelings of what we felt would happen. That night, I needed a break. I took a drive to the store and on my way there, the clock caught my eye at 10:16. Not that this time was of any great significance but it obviously stuck. I had told Tim earlier that the past couple days, 10:13 had stuck in my mind. I couldn't place either number at all but they kept coming to mind. When I drove home, I spent some time praying as well as talking (as if Grandpa was able to hear me).

Thursday, after getting the kids ready for school, I fell back asleep. I vividly remember waking up, as if someone intentionally woke me. I jumped up to see that it was 10:00 AM and Jonathon as well as Tim were gone. I called the Fire Station and found Tim. Jonathon had gone upstairs to play and fell asleep up there. Tim had taken both sets of keys so I was unable to go meet him so he agreed to finish up and come pick me up for breakfast. Very soon after I hung up, I received the call from my Mom that CPR was in progress. The time she received the call from my Grandma, 10:16 AM.

I took a friends car and started towards my grandparents house. I vividly remember saying, "Hold on, Grandpa. Hold on. But if you have to go, we understand." Tim met me at their house shortly after.

I pulled along the side of the road, trying not to run up the driveway where the ambulance was parked. My Aunt, Uncle, and Cousin all stood in the garage. I quickly handed off my phone so my Aunt could inform my mom and I headed inside. I met my Grandma at the dining room table. I stopped, making sure to give her a hug and support. She told me they were breathing for him and that she couldn't lose him. I told her I'd go see if there was anything I could help with.

I walked down the hallway, peered into the bathroom and there on the floor, he laid. So still, his color gone. They continued pushing meds, getting him packaged up to go to the hospital and breathing for him. I was sure to call out to him, letting him know that we were there. They say their hearing is the last thing to leave them. I wanted him to know that he wasn't alone!

Tim ran for the cot while the rescuers continued their jobs. I remember watching his pulse being checked before they loaded him on the cot. Once loaded, they came down the hall and through the dining room. His color looked different than before. I remember it vividly. Down the steps, out the door and through the snow they went. I grabbed his hand as we headed to the ambulance and told him we were there. His hands were still warm. I let go so I could get the doors open to the ambulance. Tim and I were at his feet when we loaded him. They were white. Tim directed the ambulance out into the street where they pulled away, headed to the hospital.

I walked away, my heart sank. I remember telling Tim, "He's gone." I had no doubts that we would get to the hospital only to be directed into a private waiting area to be told that very thing. I hoped to be proven wrong but that gut instinct that I have learned to trust over the years had kicked in full force.

The drive to the hospital seemed so long. I was quiet as I sat there holding the hand of my own spouse. I can't imagine the pain you feel when you are told your spouse is gone. Once at the hospital, we valet parked. We went to the ER where they directed us to Trauma Family Waiting Area. We met a cousin and my grandma there. Grandma went to the bathroom and my cousin asked if we were about to get bad news. I shook my head yes. She said, "really bad news?" Again, I shook my head yes and said I was pretty certain. Moments later, a doctor as well as a nurse met us. They were looking for Grandma and the family. She returned and we were directed to another, more private room. After an explanation of what had happened prior to calling the ambulance from Grandma, the doctor continued. He explained, in detail, the events from the time the ambulance arrived at the house to what the hospital did after arrival. After what seemed like a three to five minute time line ending with, "...we were unable to get his heart started again." The room grew silent. In a quiet voice, my Grandma asked, "Is he gone?" "Yes, I'm sorry. He is gone." Sobbing filled the room. I remember looking up, seeing my Mom, Aunts and Uncle who appeared in the doorway, missing the doctors words by sheer seconds. All I could do was shake my head "No" as if to tell them that he was gone.

I thought my heart was going to explode. Watching the family being washed over with such incredible sadness was more than I thought I could bear. And yet, I didn't find myself crying like the rest of them. Surely I wasn't insensitive. So why wasn't I crying as everyone else was? Was it because I had tried to separate myself earlier as if it wasn't my reality in hopes to avoid the pain that would eventually wash over me? I'm pretty sure that was the reason.

After regaining some composure, we were directed back to see and spend time with Grandpa. Some went in groups and some went alone. I did both. Again, I had the chance to have a brief minute alone with Grandpa. A man who was once so full of life, stories, wisdom and love now lay there motionless. His shell remained while his spirit soared above us.

After a few hours, we decided to come home. My cousin and I were the last to go in and say our goodbyes. I walked out of that room, glancing one more time before shutting the door behind me. This was real. Painfully real.

Once home, I showered and headed out for a quick visit at Grandpa's house before going to class. As I pulled out of my driveway, I felt relief. I finally had a few moments alone to let my guard down. I could cry if I wanted to. Instead, I turned the radio on. The first words I heard were, "I saw God today." If you're familiar with country music, you'll be familiar with that song.

After stopping in at Grandpa's house for a few minutes, I came out to the truck to leave for class. My drivers side window had been partially rolled down. Now I *know* I didn't do it. I hate my window rolled down. Besides, it's freezing cold here right now. And considering it's not a power window, I would have remembered rolling it down! Was it a sign from Grandpa?

This morning, Friday, was Jonathon's 3rd birthday. He and I went to the store to get his birthday donuts. Again, I turned the radio on in the truck and was greeted with the song, "You can let go" by Crystal Shawanda. If you're not familiar with this song, google it and listen to it. Instantly, tears filled my eyes. I tried to sing along with it but as you can imagine, it was pretty impossible. I came home and called my mom to let her know that I thought this would be a good song to have played at the memorial service. Tonight, I went and purchased it.

............

It has been almost two weeks since Grandpa passed away. Some days are harder than others. My thoughts are filled with him several times through each day. I try to remember that he wouldn't want us to be sad but sadness still fills my heart. I try to keep my anger in check as he did so well, but I'm afraid I am failing at that too.

As with most deaths, family drama soon follows. Our family is no exception. Although most of us are well aware of what Grandpa would have wanted to happen after his passing, a select few have decided otherwise. I suppose that's what happens when you let greed control you. My heart is at peace. It would have been nice to see his own children receive something....anything of his....but knowing that those who are the driving force behind the greed will get what is coming to them brings me peace.

Unlike you, Grandpa knew what true love was. He knew what family was. And much to your disgust, he truly loved each and every single one of his children. He loved every single one of his grandchildren and every single one of his great grandchildren. We mourn the loss of a loving, genuine kind-hearted, full-spirited, hard working, amazing father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

If for some reason you stumble upon this...and you will know who you are...
Your favoritism is so plainly obvious. It always has been. You constantly shove your favoritism into everyone else's face as if you're intentionally trying to intensify the pain you already inflict upon us all. For years, you have acted like you had only two grandchildren. It has always been about those two. Every grandchild you DO have sees it. Every great-grandchild you DO have sees it. Your own children see it. And yet, you just don't care. Just know that someday, you will need someone. Unfortunately for you, everyone that would have been there to lend a hand has been pushed away over the years. You severed those ties long ago and any hope that there was of repairing that thread was severed with Grandpa's death. You pushed those of us who reached out to you away because all you wanted was your favorite! You won't receive sympathy from me. You don't deserve it. You're selfish, greedy and cruel. I see right through the distraught widow front you put on. If you truly gave a damn, you would have made sure you were at that hospital every single day spending time with the man you proclaimed to love. You would have found a way to get there. Instead, you chose to sit home and lose those last few days that you could have had with him. Assess your priorities. What kept you home instead of by his bedside, holding his hand? Who was more important to you? Surely, it wasn't your husband of 57 years who was struggling with every breath he took. I sure hope it was worth it. The final hours you were given together, you chose to let your true colors shine through. I hope every night you lay your head down that you remember just how cruel, selfish, and insensitive you were those final days, hours and minutes of Grandpa's life. Then take time to think back to how you have been that way to nearly every single person in your life, except the select few who portray the same traits as you do! To know that within a matter of hours, you had already started giving your "favorites" material items while denying your own children an opportunity to have their father's things shows just how much of a heartless, self centered, greedy bitch you really are. You and your sidekick went as far as to make sure that the song the daughters and grandchildren wanted played at the service was not played. Why? Because "she" couldn't "handle it" and if we "thought we were going to play that song" she would "get up and walk out." How ironic that you say you know nothing about this song or why it wasn't played yet we overheard the two of you discussing it at the kitchen table a few days prior. We heard her complaining about the music and what was being chosen. The sad thing is that song wasn't about either one of you! And then to flat out lie about it when questioned why it wasn't played...why?

For the rest of us, we will mourn an honest, loving, genuine man who instilled his qualities into us. I couldn't think of a better example to learn from. It's a shame that you didn't pick up on some of those traits over the years. An even bigger shame is that you have chosen to push away almost every single grandchild and great grandchild that you were blessed with. What amazing memories you have missed out on. Too bad you chose not to see that.

Where are the words?

I know they are there. I hear them, screaming inside of my head. I feel them, lingering on the tip of my tongue. And yet, my lips remain frozen.

Perhaps it's a good thing that my voice is gone. For if it wasn't, I fear that the words that would escape my mouth would create great havoc.

I am hurting. Grieving. Saddened and upset. I am angry, no...furious, with the actions of some and intentions of others.

I'll never understand the reasons behind the actions. I'll never comphrend how you can proclaim great love when your actions don't show it. And I'll never understand why the intentions must be only for your personal gain.

I've always struggled with the thought that I wasn't "good enough" through the years. As a daughter, a grand-daughter, a mother and a wife. I've been able to let go of some of those emotions over time but there are those that still remain.

I can't tell you the incredible amount of willpower and self control I had to force upon myself today. It goes hand in hand with the amount of heartbreak I felt.

I understand that the grieving process is different for every person. The fact remains; however, that we all grieve. Some more openly than others. Some seek more attention than comfort in their time of need. And yet, some put on a hell of a show for those who happen to be watching.

I will continue to pray. I know my thoughts are heard, my struggles are being handled and my heart will begin to heal.

I just hope I can hold my tongue long enough to let that all happen.

I have a very lengthy post about our loss but haven't had the time to get it posted in a politically correct way. I'll work on that.

A Hard Goodbye

May you find peace in Heaven, Grandpa.

We love you.

Grandpa passed away. Please keep us in your prayers.

Time passes on...

I'm sorry! I have been completely overwhelmed. My lack of posting may have clued you in though.

Since the beginning of 2009, things have been so out of the norm. We started the year off with the death of our retired Fire Chief on New Years Day. Not only was he the Fire Chief when Tim started the department but he was also my Aunt's father-in-law. At that same time, we found out that our current fire chief has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung and aortic valve cancer. This is inoperable. It came as a huge shock to everyone and the news still has many reeling.

I had my midterm for my EMT class and scored in the top of the class. I believe I was second or third. That certainly was a welcomed grade. While I was doing that, Tim was attending Chief Wilson's service with the fire department.

I started classes up again at the college. I have three this term, not including my EMT class. So far, we're doing well.

This past weekend I was hoping for a relaxing weekend. That didn't happen. Friday was a horrible disappointment as anger and rage filled the space inside our home. Saturday I was "abducted" by a dear friend just so I could get out and away from the chaos here. We purchased the fabric to finish one of the sofas that we're making. (Photos will come soon). We had breakfast and lunch together and came home to put our purchases together. We finished the night watching a movie with some friends.

Somewhere around 1:20 AM Sunday morning, I heard the tones go off for my grandfather. After phone calls to my mom (who was sleeping really hard), A friend drove me to my grandparents. I had just missed the ambulance so I caught a ride up to the hospital with my Aunt, Uncle and Grandma. We stayed with him until morning when he was admitted for pneumonia. He's 80 and has compromised lung capacity already. Please pray for him. It's been a very rough few days.

On our way home from the hospital, we witnessed a lady lose control and roll her vehicle several times in front of us. Being first on scene (and to witness it), I felt that EMT pull. I called it in, approached the vehicle which was still up on it's drivers side and the driver started crawling out of the passenger window. In the end, she ended up being okay but surely must have been quite shook up. I can only imagine that she felt sore the next day. I'm just thankful that she was okay.

I came home and spent the morning/afternoon getting some sleep before just relaxing on Sunday night. Thankfully the kids didn't have school on Monday.

Tim and I have been to visit Grandpa. I went up today and was able to sit and talk with him by myself for a good hour. I'll cherish that time together.

He seems to be in good spirits but is certainly not fully "with us" in his thoughts. He has been moved to a room that is across from the nurses station so they can watch him a bit closer. He likes to remove his oxygen!

Just a side note, if you have a desire to have a DNR, PLEASE make sure it is a valid DNR and that your family, physician and the hospital you use has a copy of that. I'm not sure what your particular state requires; however, it is a requirement that as EMS workers MUST do everything that they can unless they have a VALID DNR order in their hands. Most times, the DNR order must be signed by yourself, your physician, one or two witnesses, and a lawyer. Different states may require something different. Just make sure your wishes are honored. Speak with your family about them and be sure they always know where that DNR order is in the event that it is needed. I only say this because what was thought to be a valid DNR order for my Grandfather has been found to be INvalid!

One thing that gave me comfort today was getting to spend some one on one time with Grandpa. He has always been a hard working, loving man, in my eyes. It is hard to see him laying there, much thinner than he has in the past and working hard to just breathe. One thing he doesn't do is to verbally say "I love you". In all my years, I have never heard him say that. I have only heard him say "You be good now." Today when I bent down, gave him a kiss and told him I loved him, he looked right at me, his hands on each of my arms and said, "I love you too!"

Keep fighting, Grandpa. Remember though, if you get up to Heaven, you need to save a spot for me! I'll bring the $5.00, you bring the patch of grass.

I'm off to do some homework. Thanks for thinking of me. I hope to be posting on a regular basis now that life is somewhat "normal" now.

Hugs,
Becky

Just breathe

It is taking every ounce of strength I have but for now, I will just breathe.

To say this year has been one of the most difficult ones yet would be an understatement. I feel as though we have been thrown under the bus only to have it stop directly on top of us...and park! Our marriage continues to be tested, our lives continue to change and our stress continues to build.

This year we celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary. I have never been superstitious about the unlucky number 13...until now.

For now, I will focus on the one thing that can't be taken from us. At least, can't be taken the way everything else in our lives has been the past six months.

Tonight, I will focus on my incredibly loving, hard-working, strong husband, our five precious young children and the fact that the Lord will continue to hold us in the palm of his hand as we wait for His plan to unfold.

Tonight, tomorrow and for the stressful days that lie ahead, I will just breathe.

Pathetic update :)

It's been another one of those weeks. I've been so busy doing things I need to have done that posting here has been on hold. Tonight, I actually have a few minutes to do somewhat of an lame update.

Last weekend, we headed north with another couple and enjoyed two nights sans kids. As nice as it was to have a break from the kids, it was good to get home and snuggle with them too. We filled our weekend with lots of fun things that left us all pretty tired this week. I don't know what it is about vacations that makes you even more tired when you return. This week, we have just been dragging.

This week I was on "vacation" from my EMT class. The instructor actually had vacation which left the students with a week off. It was a welcomed treat. I was able to get some good study time in for the tests I had this week (2 EMT, 1 NUR & 1 A&P). I also had some time to get the laundry all caught up and folded. Now if it would magically sort itself and put itself away, we'd be in business. Actually, 90% of it is put away. However, when all the laundry is 100% caught up, you begin to realize just how many clothes we all have (and could part with)! Maybe I'll do some sorting over the next few weeks.

Next week, I have an appointment to turn in my nursing program application. Please Please send up some prayers for me. I could really use some good news on it. I won't know anything until December, I believe. I hate waiting!! *sigh*

The kids had a good week at school. Jacob was able to return on Monday and has steadily been trying to keep up with his assignments. It's been a tough thing for him. He struggles but we're slowly gaining ground. He did bring home a progress report Thursday that made me extremely proud. He received an A- in MATH! It seriously brought tears to my eyes!! He even took it to his football coach who pulled him aside and gave him great praise.

Austin, Katelyn & Emilee really have nothing new to report. They are all doing well in class and having a good time with their friends. Emilee's teacher is expecting her first little bundle of joy next month. Emilee tells me almost every day that her teacher is only going to have one not five like me. :) Silly girl!

Jonathon has been super clingy this week. I suppose he has good reason to be. Afterall, we dropped him off at the sitters Friday and didn't return until Sunday. Now when I drop him off, he squeals, screams and cries. It tugs at my heart, for sure. If I could tuck him in my book bag and take him to class with me, I would. Unfortunately, it's just not an option so I must endure that heartbreaking few moments of leaving the sitters. She reassures me that he's just fine within a minute or two and he seems perfectly content when I pick him up. I'm sure it's just the thought process he has that his momma's going to leave him for good. :(

I'll continue this update tomorrow, hopefully. For now, I'm going to try to get this little night own into bed and asleep. We've been tormenting Daddy as he sleeps by playing a little football on our kind sized bed. :) Jonathon has had quite a few "SCORES" as he shouts!! Now he's making me turtle sit and his dad is teddy bear sitting (as he sleeps). He's being very very silly tonight.

Well update tomorrow after the football games. :)

Have a great day.

Chatter Box

So I realize I've done alot of "chattering" lately after a long string of no posts. :) I guess I was being lazy having writers block.

This weekend was a interesting weekend, to say the least.

Friday, our normal plans were a bust due to weather. Instead we decided we'd celebrate with our friends on their 10th anniversary! Double Digits. Woooo hoo! Congratulations to them...and may you experience many more.

Unfortunately, the weather moved in quickly and took out our power. We (women) came home and rescued the sitter before the kids could freak out. Then Tim ended up on fire calls for the next few hours. Finally about 9:30pm, we had moved the kids to the other couple's house and decided to head to Red Lobster to celebrate. All I can say is the husbands boys were not on their best behavior. The poor waitress (who was a good 20 years older than us) rolled with their hormonal, teenage boy talk chattering and even gave us a few good laughs too! It's a good thing they put us back in the far corner, alone. After a nice very large Strawberry Lobsterita, we headed home. We were still without power with a restoration of 4pm on Saturday.

Saturday, the power came back unexpectedly around 5:30am. We woke up and started getting ready for Jacob's birthday party. The kids had a great time. It was a day filled with ten children, four adults, many laughs, a cake fight, a hose fight (between two moms), burgers, hotdogs, chips, and lots of fluids. And of course, a few pretty bad sunburns even after applying lots of SPF 50 sunscreen. (Needless to say, I ended up buying SPF 70 for now on) The evening ended up bringing more storms but we kept our power. Unfortunately, one of Jacob's guests had to leave early since he wasn't feeling well. He arrived home only to vomit all over! Poor Guy. In the middle of the night, Emilee started throwing up too. I'm pretty sure it was from too much sun mixed with a bit of dehydration.

Sunday was filled with more playing and a few slow-moving adults who were tired from the weekend fun. Errands were run, kids filled the yard, and storms rolled in again in the afternoon causing us to lose power once again. *sigh* We had it back on in the early evening though, thank goodness!

Monday, Jacob was miserable. He had the worst burn I've ever seen on one of my kids. He wasn't blistered or peeling so we kept applying topical sprays and aloe. Nothing seemed to work, he said.

Tuesday, was a good friends 32 birthday! Happy Birthday, Damon! Hope it was a good one. It was also the day another Great-Nephew was born!

Jacob also called home from school again. This time, he said he wanted to come home. He said his skin was falling off. I told him I'd go down and look at it and then decide. Needless to say, he came home. He said some kids were poking at his burn and pushed skin right off. The school put two bandaids on it, which then ended up peeling a huge section of skin off his shoulder, leaving it very raw and sore. I tried several things to help him. Nothing was working. I read up on various treatments via the internet and found that a zinc oxide works well (found in desitin). I remembered when Jonathon was in the RNICU and had a horrible diaper rash that nothing would cure. They called down for this skin paste and I still had it. It had 20% zinc rather than the 11.4% of butt ointment. So, I used that on his shoulders last night along with a cool shower, cool compresses and motrin. This morning, he said it felt better but was still open, oozing and very sore. He had a field trip today so we put no-stick pads on the area and wrapped him up so his shirt wouldn't rub on it today. I hope he does well through the day! So far, no phone calls.

And here we are, Wednesday. The kids have a 1/2 day of school tomorrow and Friday and they are done for the summer.

I'll check in again later, I'm sure. I hope you are all enjoying your week.

It's a Boy!

Congratulations Lorene & Jeremy on the birth of your son and to Ethan on becoming a big brother!

Born June 10, 2008 at 6:00 PM weighing 9lb even and 22 in long.

Congratulations Lorene on achieving the VBAC you had your heart set on! I'm so proud of you.

Congratulations!!

To Jess on the upcoming birth of her Daughter!

To Wendi on the birth of her darling daughter, Sheila.

To Lorene on the impending birth of her Son.

To Alice and Carrie on their pregnancies and upcoming births.

Can you believe it? We're Great Aunt Becky and Great Uncle Tim x 2 already. After tonight, it will be 3. And by next spring, we will have five great nieces/nephews.

Wow! Where does the time go?

I remember when Tim and I started dating nearly 17 years ago. Wendi, Lorene, Alice and Carrie were all little cuties. I remember Alice asking me one evening, so innocently, "Are you going to marry my Uncle Tim and have babies?" And now, here she is, expecting her own little one in a few months. Jess was babysitting MY first baby and now, she's having her third!

Congratulations to each of you. We love you!

Think of us, please!

Just asking that you'll think of us over the next few weeks and months ahead. We're going to be making some pretty big changes around here and would appreciate any prayers to help us with the transition.

Blessings to each of you,

Gone but not forgotten

Nope, we're not gone. We're still here. Hopefully you haven't forgotten about us. I've thought of you all many times but have not had a spare moment to get here and post what we've been doing.

I have so many things I want to post but considering I'll be called away here in another five or ten minutes, I will have to post just the basics.

First things first, PLEASE pray for Jonathon. Once again, he is sick. I don't know why he continues to get sick and fight high fevers on a pretty consistent basis the past month +, but I'm getting pretty frusterated with it all. Once again, he is battling a fever. We are on day six, (Wednesday) and yesterday (Tuesday) his fever had hit 104.4. It was then that I made a call to his doctor asking for help. We took him in an hour later where they too were concerned about him. A raging fever, a heartrate of 145, very lathargic, on the brink of dehydration, and looking totally helpless was what they saw. The doctor told me she was very concerned about him and wanted us to take him to the hospital. Before going, she said she would do a strep test and an xray. He barely made a squeak during the strep test. For any child, it is a challenge to not want to kick, cry and scream. The xray had to be repeated because it was "dark". After repeating it, the doctor came in and said he had pnemunia. She gave us the option of trying an antibiotic at home with the combination of 6-8 oz of fluids an hour in addition to using the tylenol/motrin to reduce the fever. We've been trying that through the evening without much success. His heartrate has reduced slightly. His eyes remain glassy. He had a little energy for about 45 minutes before he fell back into the larthegic stage. I have been listening to his lungs at least once an hour and have just begun to notice a change in the sounds of them. Since I have a house of sleeping children and Tim's at work, I will stay up to continue monitoring his progress and status. We should be headed to the hospital around 5:00 AM. Please pray for him.

In other news: (Have to keep it brief, I hear him stirring)
*Circle drive & rock gardens still not finished.

*I ended up with two new kittens, Black Jack and Snicker Doodle (or Snickers). The kids couldn't understand why we couldn't use some of the names they came up with. You know, because there's no reason we can't yell out the back door, "Here coochie" or "Come on pissy". Don't ask! @@

*Gas prices, inflation on groceries and healthcare costs are killing our budget here. Is it true that we'll be seeing $12 a gallon by Labor Day? And bread, $2.99 a loaf? I'm quite concerned about our budget. Please send up a prayer for us if you can.

*Katelyn had her hair cut off. It's a cute, chin length cut.

*Emilee lost her first tooth Sunday. Unfortunately, it's from the result of her and a friend getting into electrical tape and then trying to "cut" it with her teeth! ACK! It was a baby tooth though. Whew

*Memorial Day weekend here was not a good one for several reasons. I hope everyone else had an enjoyable weekend.

*Postage stamps went up too? Good golly. (I know, not like yesterday but quite recently)

*Emilee is done for school for the year. She's thrilled. Frankly, so am I.

*Jacob is about to turn 11. Momma's not so thrilled.

*Jacob walked in during a documentary on polyigamy. He asked what it all meant and I spent the time to answer his questions as honestly and frankly as I could. He said he didn't want to live that way. Whew! Good thing there, Son. Thanks!

*Katelyn has been dealing with daily headaches for almost a week now. She's going in for an eye exam next week. Pray she doesn't suffer from migraines like I do.

*Austin is "color deficient" or color blind. We found this out at his eye appointment a week ago or so. It does cause some issues for his future.

*If you could, please pray for my health as well. The last two days, I've been dealing with a dizziness that I can't explain. It started Monday and was worse today. It was to the point this evening that I was afraid of driving. Pray it goes away quickly.

Ack! I hear Jonathon stirring. I'll hopefully post photos in a day or so....
