Today, we welcomed nine new additions to our little family. I had spotted an ad for nine quail hens for FREE! I made sure to call Tim and ask about it first instead of surprising him with the large addition to our little farm. He gave the okay and tonight, we went to pick up the new pets.
We were told that they each lay one egg a day. I've never eaten quail eggs before but the gentleman we received these from said they are quite delicious. There is only one issue with quail eggs. They are tiny! Yes, that is a nickel.
After a few days of collecting, you have almost enough eggs to equal that of a dozen chicken eggs.
I believe there are 47 quail eggs in this carton!
Tonight, they are all inside a large cat carrier and inside the house. We will build their pen tomorrow. The kids have been surrounding the cage at least a few times each hour wanting to hold them ...
and to see if they have laid any eggs. Imagine their surprise when they finally saw an egg tucked away in the back corner!
Since they've been here (in the last six hours), they have laid three eggs! The kids just think that is the coolest thing ever! I imagine they will be even more thrilled if they get the pleasure of watching them lay an egg.
This picture looks as if she's snickering. What do you think?

They are cute!! But you are going to need a LOT of those itty bitty eggs to feed your troop lol!
Hope you enjoy your new additions
We were laughing about that earlier! Tim made 24 (regular) eggs the other day and that was just for the four YOUNGEST kids. They at every single one of them. Jacob and I were gone and Tim didn't get any either. I don't see these eggs helping with the food bill but I do see them being an awesome learning experience for the kids! :)
Aw, those are some cute little eggs! And cute birdies too. That's pretty neat, my kids would love that too =)
