Now that my heart rate has settled back down out of the I'm going to die because my heart is going to explode range, I can share with you what just happened to me.
Earlier this evening, I put all the kids to bed. Jonathon, kicking and screaming, was put in his room and I shut the door. Soon enough, he settled down and drifted off to sleep. It's routine for me to go in their rooms, cover them up, kiss them good night and go to bed. Except this time, I would be met with an empty bed!
I walked into Jonathon's room and there on the floor lay a pile of blankets. I carefully lifted them up one by one fully expecting to see him laying underneath them. He wasn't there. He wasn't on the floor, in the closet, behind the door or under his bed. He hadn't climbed into the toy chest either. Panic set in.
I went to the boys' bedroom searching everywhere. No Jonathon.
I went to my bedroom. Still no Jonathon.
I raced to the basement searching every room there. Nothing.
I shot back upstairs, searching both bathrooms, tubs, showers, cupboards. No Jonathon.
I woke up my niece who began the search with me.
I called his name, no answer. Surely I must be overlooking him. I mean, come on. He's 21 months old. It's not like he's able to make a great escape. Right?
My heart was pounding, my breathing very fast and I opened the front door searching the lawn. Nothing.
Where in the world could this child be? I'm on the verge of frantic with buckets of tears in the waiting.
I went back to his room. Lifted the mattress off his bed, still no Jonathon. Decided to get on my hands and knees and look under the water bed. There, way back up against the wall laid my sleeping baby boy. No blanket. No PJs. But safe. SOUND asleep.
What a beautiful sight that was.
I can't begin to tell you what fears were running through my head. Awful thoughts!
Thank goodness he was just trying to play a little game of Hide and Give Momma a Heart Attack!
Maybe next time, buddy! Maybe next time.

Aw man, that must have been sooo scary!!! I'm so glad you found him safe and sound! It must have been hide from Mom and scare the shit out of her day, LOL! Because we were all out this afternoon playing out front, talking to neighbors when I look around and I can't find Logan anywhere! SO I start yelling his name asking people if they see him, looking in neighbors houses still no answer. I found the little brat in MY backyard (go figure) playing with the hose! Crazy boy!
Oh man! How terrible! I lost a Kindergartener once. He went down to the bathroom and was gone for too long. I called down to the office for them to check on him and he wasn't in there. They found him in the parking lot (!) looking for his mom even though it wasn't the end of the day! YIKES! Glad you found your baby! Not a funny game!
