Apparently my stethescope has an internal crackle and wheezing system which activates during the evening hours causing the lungs of a child to sound as though they are filled with yucky gunk. In addition, apparently the pulse ox monitor also has an internal option that triggers to show low Oxygen readings during the evening and early morning hours which coupled with the stethescope, causes parents great distress. They also cause parents to make appointments with a physician who then examines the child and looks back at the parent as if they are a nut case.
Welcome to my day!
As mentioned in a previous post, Jonathon is sick! So, after a very long night and early morning, I called his doctor this morning. They set him up to see someone we've never seen before but in the same office. I was fine with that but was less than impressed when I left.
Basically, she heard nothing, found nothing, felt I should not be giving him decongestant, and was told that if his sats fall below 92% tonight, to take him to the ER. Oh, and she did give him an antibiotic for an upper respiratory infection.
Now, some call me crazy, but I know what I heard. I wasn't the only one here that heard his lungs. I told her this. I also told her that he had a big coughing fit just before we left to go in. It's quite alarming when he does this, almost as if he was choking. Maybe that's why she heard nothing, I don't know. Tonight, I hear it still. He is clingly, crying, and very unhappy. His sats were 95% but we'll see where he goes after he goes to bed. I'm just frusterated. Of course I want there to be nothing wrong but I am fearful that something is being overlooked. I don't want to end up in the hospital. I don't have time for that!!
So, that's my day in a nutshell. I'm feeling crappy myself. My nose is constantly running, I'm sneezing, my throat is itchy, and I'm irritable. Let's not forget that I'm exhausted to boot.
I just want him better. That's all. Healthy and Happy.

Ha! I don't think you're crazy! I have been there done that with Chase. After many trips to the ER I bought my own Pulse Ox and stethescope...I keep a close eye on Chase when his asthma is acting up and when his pulse ox drops below 89 and I hear that crackle and wheeze I take him in. But then we get there and their pulse ox reads 95 or higher and they don't hear the crackle! WTF is up with that? So one time the ER nurse asked if I had mine with me, I did so we put one on one finger and one on the other hand finger and got 2 totally different readings. Mine was brand new, hers not. I still don't know who's what right but I do know what I hear and I am not crazy!
Just keep a close eye on him like your doing, you know when things are not right so go from there. I hope JR gets to feeling better soon.
